My friend Lauren's beautiful shot of a Turkish marketplace

Red, rouge, rojo, rosso...however you say it, the colour red is evocative in any language. After seeing the above press photo of the gorgeous Maurie & Eve Peplum Dress, it got me in the mood to do a little red feature. While it is indisputably a striking colour, it can conjure up a bounty of looks and feels depending on the context... it can be flirtatious (in the case of the Peplum), theatrical (in the case of the Karla Spetic), unconventional (in the case of the Acne brogues) or commanding (in the case of Ashley Olsen's ensemble). Whatever the guise, it is certain to provoke a smile during even the dreariest of weather.

Blue Valentine

I watched a beautiful and heart-breakingly melancholic film on Sunday (the day the heavens opened up to remind us Winter has well & truly arrived and that ciders on the deck at Wharf bar are sadly on hiatus). 

Said film is titled Blue Valentine and has two of the most influential actors of our age at its helm - Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. As discussed in a review on The Vine, the film is shot in Brooklyn on shaky hand-held camera and is essentially a story about love - both its exquisite beginning and its excruciatingly painful demise. (The music score is also dominated by Grizzly Bear  who are in one word, amazing). 

With this wet weather showing no sign of abating, it seems like the perfect antidote might just well be...a night-in, tucked up in one of the many beautiful knits we currently have in store....accompanied by Ryan, Michelle and a bottle of Pinot Noir xx

At about the same time every year, most of us inevitably get lured in, either consciously or not, by the appeal of the black/white/grey combo. As the degrees start to drop, so, it seems, does our enthusiasm to wear colour.
